NEGOSIEMUSEUM - ROSENDAL'S FIRST MUSEUM
NEGOSIEMUSEUM in the main street of Rosendal where you will step into a trading store from almost half a century ago.
It was a time when XXX mints and Aspros ( remember the pink box?) cost 2 ½ cents each; when you could buy the 1c roll of Kilty’s sweets in an array of colours, a time when brands such as Shu Shine, Ajax and Ricoffy were household names. At Miller & Son you’ll find many brands that have survived over the years: Colgate, Palmolive and Fanta – and who could forget the Ponds face creams our mothers used?
The clothing department has men’s suits still packed in large illustrated boxes, delicate petticoats for little girls, underwear for men and women which you last saw on grandma’s washing line; flannel fabric – remember grandpas’ striped flannel pajamas? - and crimplene dresses that were the rave in South Africa way back in the early sixties.
There is also an ‘Aphotheke’ in the museum and the big delight is you can still purchase some of these original collector’s items, depending on stock quantities!
